Grammar Worksheets Generator
Build a grammar practice sheet from several topics at once – print it with an answer key or check the answers online.
This free grammar worksheets generator makes printable English grammar worksheets right in your web browser. There is no sign-up, and nothing you create is uploaded or sent to a server. Use it to build grammar practice worksheets for school, tutoring, or ESL classes, then print them or work through them on screen.
Each sheet mixes exercises from every grammar topic, so one page can cover nouns, verb tenses, punctuation, and sentence types together. You choose the level, the exercises, and the number of questions. The preview on the right shows the paper sheet and updates as you change any setting. Whether you need one grammar sheet or a set of English grammar worksheets for a whole class, you can generate as many as you need.
How to make a grammar worksheet
- Type a worksheet title and choose the paper size, US Letter or A4.
- Pick a level: Easy (grades 3–4 or ESL beginner), Medium (grades 5–6 or ESL intermediate), or Hard (grades 7–8 or ESL upper-intermediate).
- Look at the four exercises the page starts with (plural nouns, subject-verb agreement, correct the sentence, four types of sentences). Keep them, or change the exercise type of any of them and set its number of questions, from 3 to 30.
- Press “Add another exercise” to build a sheet of up to six exercises. A type may show fewer questions if it has fewer items at your level.
- Turn on Name and date line, Number the questions, and Word bank, where an exercise offers one.
- Check the preview on the right. It changes with every setting.
- Press “New worksheet” to get new questions with the same settings.
- Press “Print worksheet” to print the sheet, or “Print answer key” to print only the key.
- Press “Practice online” to work through the sheet on screen.
Set Different versions from 1 to 10 when you need several copies. Each version has its own questions and its own answer key, which helps when students sit together and might copy from each other. Print them together to save time.
Can I make a daily grammar practice sheet?
Yes. The default sheet is already a mixed daily grammar review with four exercises: making plural nouns, subject-verb agreement, correcting a sentence for capitals and punctuation, and identifying four types of sentences, with 5 questions each. You can use it as it is or change it.
For daily practice, keep the same four exercise types, set 3 to 5 questions for each, and press “New worksheet” each morning for a fresh sheet. If you want a week of sheets at once, set Different versions to 5 and print them together.
The practice sentences were written for the site and checked by hand. Forms such as plurals, verb tenses, comparatives, and contractions are produced by tested rules, so each new sheet follows the same spelling and grammar patterns. American English spelling and punctuation are used throughout.
Are there mixed grammar exercises on one sheet?
Yes. This generator mixes exercises from nouns, verbs, verb tenses, adjectives, pronouns, prepositions, articles, conjunctions, contractions, punctuation, sentences, and parts of speech. Each exercise type trains one skill, and the sheet keeps them in the order you set.
A mixed sheet works well for review because each exercise asks students to switch to a different skill. For example, the item “tom and me went to the store” becomes “Tom and I went to the store.” Here the student must capitalize the names and choose the subject pronoun I, because I is part of the subject. In contrast, me is used after verbs and prepositions, as in The teacher called Tom and me.
Sentence-type items work the same way. “Did anyone see where I put my keys?” is an interrogative sentence, because it asks a question and ends with a question mark. The other three types are declarative (a statement), imperative (a command), and exclamatory (strong feeling, ending with an exclamation mark).
Frequently asked questions
Can I get the worksheet as a PDF?
Yes. Press “Print worksheet”, then choose “Save as PDF” in the print window. Set the scale to 100 % and turn off headers and footers so the PDF matches the preview.
Do the worksheets come with answers?
Yes, when you turn on “Add the answer key when printing”, the key appears on its own page after the sheet. To print only the key, press “Print answer key”.
Which grade levels are covered?
The levels are Easy for grades 3–4 or ESL beginners, Medium for grades 5–6 or ESL intermediate, and Hard for grades 7–8 or ESL upper-intermediate. The level changes which sentences and words are used.
Can students practice online?
Yes. “Practice online” turns the sheet into an on-screen exercise. Students tap a choice, type an answer, or tap words, then press “Check answers” to see each item marked right or wrong, the correct answers, and a score. “Try again” resets the sheet. Free-writing items are not scored.
Can I reopen the same worksheet later?
Yes. “Copy link” copies an address that opens exactly the same worksheet with the same questions. Use it to reprint later or to share the sheet with a colleague.
