History

Etymology

From Italian Asiago (Venetan Axiago), from Medieval Latin Axiglagum, a predial name from a name like Asellius or Acilius. The Cimbrian name is Slege and the German name is Schlägen, both also deriving from the Latin (Aselago → Selago → Slago → Slege).

Named after the northern Italian town of Asiago.
