Borrowed from Hindustani (Hindi भागदार (bhāgdār), Urdu بَھاگْدَار (bhāgdār)); of which the first element भाग (bhāg) / بَھاگ (bhāg) is derived from Sanskrit भाग (bhāga, “part, share, piece”), and the second one -दार (-dār) / ـدَار (-dār) is a suffix derived from Classical Persian ـدَار (-dār, “holder, owner”).
