History

Etymology

Reduplication of bird, a semantic loan from Hokkien 鳥 /鸟 (as in 𡳞鳥 /𡳞鸟 and 咕咕鳥 /咕咕鸟) and Malay burung (“bird; penis”). Compare bird, which is also used to refer to the male genitalia in certain North American slang.
