Scottish occupational surname for a maker or seller of spurs, bits and other metal attachments to harness and tackle, from Anglo-Norman lorenier, an agent derivative of Old French lorain (“tackle, harness”).

From Old French lormier, loremier, from Latin loranum (“bridle”), lorum (“thong, the rein of a bridle”).
