History

Etymology

Formerly Inuerlunan, equivalent to Scottish Gaelic inbhir (“estuary”) + Lunan Water. The river-name itself is, per King (2007), from a Pictish reflex of Proto-Celtic *loukos (“shining, white”).

Variant of Loonan.

From Luna + -an.
