paullones are named after Dr. Kenneth Paull, a researcher who worked in the field of AIDS and cancer research at the National Institutes of Health. These compounds were discovered using his COMPARE algorithm and were named in honor of him. http://cancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/59/11/2566 Footnote 6: "We propose the name paullone for the unsubstituted compound and kenpaullone for the 9-bromo analogue to honor the memory of Dr. Kenneth Paull, inventor of the COMPARE algorithm, whose insight, wisdom, and generosity greatly influenced not only this particular work but the whole field of cancer drug discovery."
