Etymology

Blend of pop (“father”) + Epsicle, from Epperson + icicle. Named after Frank Epperson, its inventor. The inventor's children renamed it Popsicle, from Pop's 'sicle.

From the trade name Popsicle, a blend of pop (“father”) + Epsicle (original trade name), itself a blend of Epperson (surname of the inventor) + icicle.
