History

Etymology

From Latin recalescere (“to grow warm again”), from re- + calēscere (“to grow warm”), inchoative of calēre (“to be warm”). In use since at least 1873 (Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary, published 1985). By surface analysis, re- + calescence, or, by surface analysis, recalesce + -ence.
