History
From the Latin saint's name Sabina.
From French Sabines (“Rivière Sabines”) via sabine (“tree type”), from Spanish Sabinas (“Rio de Sabinas”), from sabina (“type of tree”), from Latin herba Sabina (“tree”), from Sabinus (“tribe”); named after the forests on the shores of the river. Named in 1716 by Spanish explorer Domingo Ramón.
From Latin Sabinus. The name is said to mean "of one's own," from Proto-Indo-European *sebh-, *swebh- (“one's own”).
