History
From Portuguese vinho verde (young wine), so called because the wine has been made, bottled, and sold within three to six months after the grapes are harvested, which is young in comparison with many other wines. These wines are usually consumed soon after purchase, rather than being laid down in a cellar for yearslong storage.
